Abstract |
INTRODUCTION The Seoul Olympics has been an international role model for a nation who intends to host such a mega event considering the fact that it significantly influenced on the advancement of national identity and on the development of Korean modern society. METHOD This study evaluates political, economical, social and cultural significance of the Seoul Olympics investigating media and academic sources before, during and after the Games. RESULT The Seoul Olympics can be certainly regarded as one of the most successful victory for both Korea and the Olympic Movement promoting world peace and harmony through the diligent partnership of the SLOOC and the IOC. The Seoul Olympics contributed to the promotion of the diplomatic relations of Korea with other nations including communist and non-aligned nations. It has contributed to the peace between two Koreas additionally. Recognition of global relationship for both Korea and the globe through physical culture has been witnessed by the Seoul Olympics. Sport was a strong political tool to ameliorate national diplomacy. CONCLUSION The Seoul Olympics was successful achievement to promote a form of globalization. The 2008 Beijing Olympics also has been regarded as a harbinger of the changing nature of political relationships in the East Asian region and the globe as experienced through the Seoul Games. |
