Abstract |
INTRODUCTION This study is to examine the effects of Pilates mat exercise for 12 weeks on body composition, blood lipid level, and lumbar muscle strength of middle age women. METHOD The subjects of this study were 16 middle age women who participated in this study divided two groups - pilates mat exercise group(N=8) and no exercise group(N=8) - randomly, and a exercising group practiced a pilates mat exercise program of 60-80min/day, 3day/week for 12 weeks. Body composition, Blood lipid level, and lumbar muscle strength were measured before and after exercise. All data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA repeated measurement and paired t-test by SPSS(version 12.0). An alpha level of <.05 was used to determine the significant level. RESULT As results, Pilates mat exercise of middle age women during 12 weeks was not significantly different in LBM but was significantly different in body weight(p<.01), %fat(p<.05), fat mass(p<.01). Pilates mat exercise was not significantly different in HDL-C, but was significantly different in TC(p<.01), TG(p<.05), LDL-C(p<.05). Pilates mat exercise have showed to be significantly different in abdominal Sit-Up(p<.05), Crunch(p<.001), Back crunch(p<.01). CONCLUSION There were significant changes on body composition, blood lipid level, and lumbar muscle strength on plates mat excercise of middle age women during 12 weeks. It means that pilates mat exercise can be suitable exercise to improve body composition, to strengthen a lumbar muscle and to get positive change of blood lipid level for middle age woman. |
